The Electrical Steel Production Process

Flow of Steelmaking and Metallurgy

We begin with a highly controlled steelmaking process, typically using an electric arc furnace to melt high-quality scrap steel. The key is the precise addition of silicon to create the ideal iron-silicon alloy.

  • Hot Rolling: The molten steel is cast into slabs and rolled into thin sheets.
  • Acid Pickling: We use an acid pickled cleaning process to remove surface oxides and impurities.
  • Cold Rolling: The material is processed into a cold rolled strip, achieving the exact thickness required for high-efficiency applications.

Cutting, Lamination, and Stacking Processes

Once the flat-rolled steel reaches the desired gauge, we transition to the mechanical processing phase. This is where the steel is shaped into functional parts for motors and transformers.

  • Slitting: We cut the wide steel coils into narrow strips based on specific project dimensions.
  • Stamping: High-speed presses create precise laminations, which are the individual layers used in electromagnetic cores.

Stress Relief Annealing

The mechanical stress from cutting and stamping can degrade the magnetic properties of the steel. To fix this, we perform a final anneal. Our stress relief annealing process involves heating the laminations in a controlled atmosphere to restore the metal’s internal structure.
